Christopher Myers says a couple of things in this Reading Rockets interview that really stand out for me. One of his points is that “reading is not like a vacation in Hawaii,” reminding us that basic literacy is a huge concern in this country. I get so caught up in writing for literate kids that I forget that sometimes. Another point that stands out for me is when he says how important it is, as a writer and as a person, of knowing where you come from, knowing the things that make you feel special, and celebrating those things. Check this interview out.
Thanks for sharing this! I love what he says about successful people and work! It’s so true that so often we see successful singers, writers, or actors and don’t think about the work that goes on behind the scenes to get them to those places of success.
Yeah, I liked that observation, too. I think he’s dead on there. The people who I know that are super-successful in their careers spend much of their time, energy and focus nurturing those careers. Which makes it a bit challenging when you’re trying to keep balance in your life! But it’s a good reminder to quit procrastinating, and get down to it.
