Christopher Myers says a couple of things in this Reading Rockets interview that really stand out for me. One of his points is that “reading is not like a vacation in Hawaii,” reminding us that basic literacy is a huge concern in this country. I get so caught up in writing for literate kids that I forget that sometimes. Another point that stands out for me is when he says how important it is, as a writer and as a person, of knowing where you come from, knowing the things that make you feel special, and celebrating those things.
